Overview
Procurement and supply chain decisions account for a large share of every oil and gas company's spending and have a direct effect on safety, uptime and project delivery. A missing spare part can stop a plant, a weak contract can expose the company to years of disputes, and a poorly managed supplier can delay a project by months. This course gives participants a complete view of how procurement and supply chain management create value in the energy sector. It covers procurement strategy and category management, the tendering process and bid evaluation, contract types and key terms, supplier selection, performance and relationship management, and local content requirements. The programme also addresses materials and inventory management, logistics, risk and resilience, ethics and compliance, and the use of data and digital tools to improve supply chain performance.
Objectives
- Explain the role of procurement and supply chain in oil and gas value creation
- Develop category strategies using spend analysis and market assessment
- Manage tendering, bid evaluation and award decisions
- Select suitable contract types and key commercial terms
- Manage supplier performance and relationships
- Apply materials, inventory and logistics management principles
- Identify supply chain risks and build resilience
Who should attend
Procurement and contracts staff, supply chain and materials managers, buyers, logistics coordinators, contract holders in operations and projects, and managers responsible for third-party spend.
Training methodology
Concepts are applied to realistic procurement situations from upstream operations and capital projects. Participants analyse a spend dataset to build a category strategy, run a simulated tender from request for proposal to bid evaluation, draft key contract terms and set up a supplier performance scorecard. Inventory exercises use real consumption data to set stock levels for critical spares. Ethics dilemmas and supply disruption scenarios are discussed in groups, and the course ends with an assessment.
