Workshop on Advanced Project Management (APMW)

 

 About the Course

 Instead of using the conventional lecture structure, this course will be an interactive, hands-on workshop in which the participants will work on a number of case studies that are closely relevant to the chosen topics. This course will emphasize how owner businesses (NOCs and IOCs) collaborate with their EPC contractors to plan and carry out their projects from the standpoint of the EPC contractor. Both onshore and offshore projects are covered in the workshop materials.

 The major goal of this session is to provide a number of real-life examples of various project challenges that contractors may meet and work through these issues to demonstrate how they should be treated to get an ideal conclusion. Less theory and more practice will be the main topics of this workshop. It is advised that attendees bring a few scenarios from their current or prior projects to be used in the workshop as case studies in addition to the case studies developed and provided by PetroSkills.

 

Target Audience

 The Middle East area is the topic of this course, which is intended for senior project management employees of EPC contractors working on significant international energy projects. It is advised for seasoned discipline leads, project managers, project engineers, project controls managers, and construction managers.

 

Course Objectives

 Participants will pick up skills in:

  • Share contract risk between the contractor and the owner.
  • Address terms and conditions (liability cap, guarantees, guaranties, key personnel approval, specific conditions, etc.) during the bidding stage.
  • Handle the owner-provided FEED as the foundation for the bid
  • Before contract signing, contract administration, and record-keeping, finalize the terms and conditions.
  • Recognize and bargain liquidated damages that are imposed on project milestones.
  • Manage change orders, the owner's or contractor's suspension of work, and the termination of the contract for good reason or convenience.
  • Prepare for the resolution of the disagreement and the contractor's claim (documents, timing, owner notification, etc.). Identify the governing laws in the contract and determine whether discussion, mediation, arbitration, and litigation are necessary.
  • Establish the cost of the claims and the payers.
  • Defend yourself against contractor accusations made by the owner.
  • Avoid claims wherever you can
  • During the engineering, procurement, and construction phases of a project, identify project risks and evaluate their impact.
  • When working on a project, use risk management.
  • Determine, evaluate, and reduce project risks
  • Describe the benefits and drawbacks of a project risk register and mitigation plan.

  • Project risks should be addressed in cost and schedule projections, the bidding process, and the contract.

  • Owner and Contractor to Manage Schedule Delays, Acceleration, and Work Stoppage Maintain schedule baselines, critical routes, and near-critical paths for contractual milestones.
