Process Safety Management based on Risk

 About the Course

The elements and advantages of process safety management systems, as well as methods for building and operating a system, are all introduced in this course, which also covers process safety management in the oil and gas industry. The participant in this course will learn how to manage process safety using tools and procedures. The text for this course will be the book "Guidelines for Risk Based Process Safety" or "RBPS Guidelines" from the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). The concepts that CCPS proposes for risk-based process safety will be expanded upon using participant-centered exercises and chosen case studies.

Participants will be pushed to consider how their process safety management system may be improved and changed to adhere to the principles of risk-based decision making during the entire course. In order to apply the knowledge from the course to the workplace, each student will create a personal action plan.

Target Audience

HSE experts, technicians for operations and maintenance, engineers, managers of projects, and supervisors all need a fundamental understanding of creating and overseeing process safety. PS-4, Process Safety Engineering, covers the more technical facets of process safety engineering.

Course Objectives

Participants will pick up skills in:

  •  Describe the processes that apply to Process Safety Management (PSM) and the terms that are utilized. Determine the standards that should be used to manage process hazards.
  • Use software and tools to manage a PSM system.
  • Pick the right tools and decision-making processes to spot process dangers.
  • Describe and use the various approaches for reducing the risks associated with process designs.
  • Describe the criteria and procedures for choosing equipment and safety measures.
  • Investigate and use the performance criteria for the operational safety systems.
  •  Describe the function of each discipline and how it contributes to the control of potential HSE hazards.

Course Outlines

  •  Competency and culture in process safety adherence to standards Understanding risks and hazards
  • Safe work practices and operational protocols Asset dependability and integrity
  • Operations management: management of change
  • Investigation of incidents (related to plant breakdowns) Metrics and measurement
  • anagement evaluation and ongoing development
