Process Safety Foundations

 About the Course

For all staff levels working in processing facilities in the upstream and downstream oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, the training will cover the principles of process safety. The installation of a separator vessel is the subject of a rolling case study (Project COLEX) that runs throughout the course to show how various disciplines and roles might affect process safety performance. At each stage, from design through full operation, the relevant Process Safety considerations and implications are examined and explained.

Target Audience

All staff involved in the management, upkeep, and operation of manufacturing and processing plants will get something from the course. Senior management, project and engineering support teams, HSE support, supervisors, and operator and maintenance technicians are among the roles to which it is applicable. Without addressing the more intricate calculation aspects presented in Process Safety Engineering PS-4, the design base and basics for safe operations are understood.

Course Objectives

Participants will pick up skills in:

  •  Determine the methods and procedures needed in a high-risk installation to improve process safety.
  • Determine and pick the best methods and equipment for qualitatively evaluating process dangers.
  • To avoid, control, and minimize the risk to process safety, establish appropriate risk reduction methods and effective risk reduction techniques.
  • Recognize and create processes for process management Increasing operational safety through operating guidelines and constraints, maintaining plant integrity through upkeep and inspection
  • To reduce the risk of change, use a management of change process.
  • To maintain and enhance safety performance, identify and monitor key performance indicators and verifications.

Course Outlines

  •  Process Safety in the Business Context
  • Risk assessment (risk identification, risk scenarios, risk analysis, tools and procedures, and analysis of consequences and likelihood)
  • Barriers and risk reduction measures
  • Process safety management in operations (operational guidelines, operating constraints based on design and human factors, inspection and maintenance, and emergency response)
  • Controlling change
  • Taking lessons from past mistakes and near-misses Measurement and self-auditing
  • Important performance indicators for process safety management auditing and review
  • eadership in process safety (governance and culture)
