PCR for Carbonate Reservoirs

About the Course

Geoscientists working on carbonate reservoir exploration and utilization must attend this demanding program. The difficulty of carbonate porosity is highlighted in the session. We'll talk about its modification and evolution within a sequence stratigraphic framework that is driven by sea level. Throughout, case studies and activities from different parts of the world will be used to highlight key ideas. The participant gains experience in creating practical exploration and exploitation techniques for carbonate terrains via these activities and case studies.

Drs. Moore and Wade wrote the textbook "Carbonate Reservoirs" expressly for this subject, and it is provided to all course registrants.

Target Audience

Engineers with a foundation in geology as well as exploration and development geologists, managers, and geophysicists will profit.

Course Objectives

Participants will pick up skills in:

  • Recognize fundamental carbonate properties that are crucial for reservoir development
  • Recognize the applications of carbonates and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic systems to sequence stratigraphy.
  • Recognize how complicated carbonate pore networks are.
  • Understand how carbonate porosity changes during diagenesis, as well as how sea level and climate affect porosity changes and gross reservoir heterogeneity.
  • Utilizing subsurface datasets, create realistic exploration and exploitation plans for carbonate terrains.

Course Outlines

  • Carbonates' basic properties models of carbonate facies
  • Fundamental ideas in sequence stratigraphy
  •  stratigraphic patterns and variations in subsidence rates
  • The ramp, the rimmed shelf, the escarpment margin, the isolated platform, and the mixed carbonate-siliciclastic shelf are examples of sequence stratigraphic models.
  • Carbonate pore system characteristics
  • Diagenesis, the development of porosity, and the distribution of porosity at the moment of burial Early-formed porosity during burial and its fate
  • Dolomitization's potential benefits, particularly those brought about by hydrothermal processes H2S contamination of carbonate reservoirs
  • Carbonate natural fractures
