Operations of Power Plants - SIM-PPO

About the Course

A student-driven learning methodology based on the INSTOTM Methodology is combined with high fidelity, generic process simulators in an interactive 2-day course. The two-day courses offered by PetroSkills Simulation Solutions emphasize critical thinking abilities for operators that can be applied in the control room and teach operators how to create mental models of diverse operations.

Each student in this course will have access to a steam boiler, a natural gas turbine, and a basic combined cycle power plant as well as their own generic simulators. Each piece of equipment will be started up by the trainees, and they will also have time to spend solving typical boiler, turbine, and combined cycle issues. Over the course of the lesson, emphasis is placed on operations that support both safety and optimization. The course's content is relevant to chemical, petrochemical, and any other facilities that run turbines, boilers, and combined cycles.

 Target Audience

Boiler, turbine, and combined cycle operators, outside operators, console supervisors, and young engineers

 Course Objectives

 THERMAL BOILER

  • increasing understanding of basic engineering and operational fundamentals knowledge of fundamental unit operations
  • Boosting operator self-confidence enhancing the foundational capabilities

TURBINE FOR NATURAL GAS

  • Use an outside operator to run the natural gas turbine. Control the Natural Gas Turbine from a Console
  • increasing understanding of basic engineering and operational fundamentals knowledge of fundamental unit operations
  • higher levels of operator assurance enhanced core operational capabilities

COMBINED CYCLE POWER PLANT, BASICS

The operator will benefit from using the simulator properly by having:

1) An improved understanding of unit operations

2) Appropriate operational procedures

3) The capacity to identify problems

4) The best practices for handling adjustments to operations

5) Knowledge of safety precautions

6) Techniques for preventing issues

 Course Outlines

  • Using simulators, perform startup, troubleshooting, safety operations, and optimization operations for Boiler and turbine for natural gas
  • an elementary mixed cycle power plant
