Operations for Offshore Drilling, or ODO

About the Course

This training program's goal is to acquaint participants with the distinctive characteristics of offshore activities, structures, and boats as well as how drilling rigs interact with them during the course of an asset. The analysis includes bottom-supported, floating, mobile, and stationary rig types. Clarifying selection criteria takes into account the benefits and drawbacks of particular rig applications, including HSE performance, technological capabilities, and full-cycle efficiency.

 Target Audience

Engineering, geoscience, operations supervision and technical support, HSE, drilling contractor rig crew and technical support staff, service company and logistical support staff are all examples of operator staff.

 Course Objectives

Participants will pick up skills in:

  •  Compare and contrast onshore and offshore operations.
  • Explain HSE and other risks connected to offshore activities (operations including helicopters, boats, cranes, and decks, simultaneous operations, and emergency response).
  • Recognize offshore structures that are frequently employed in the oil and gas sector, as well as the typical uses for each kind (bottom-supported or floating, fixed or mobile, anchored or dynamically positioned, single-use and multi-use structures).
  • Determine different maritime riser styles and designs, as well as subsea and surface BOPs, wellheads, and trees. Determine the distinctions between various rig types (platform rigs, barge rigs, jackup rigs, semi-submersible, drillship) and how they interact with offshore structures over the life of an asset.
  • Determine the operational efficacy differences between different rig equipment configurations, particularly numerous activity centers
  • Give specifics for rig selection.
  • Clarify drilling and completion operations' logistical motivations

 Course Outlines

  •  characteristics of the surface and subsurface that are specific to the offshore environment
  •  Offshore HSE considerations and their effects on planning, operations, and logistics.
  • Platforms, both bottom-supported and floating; FPSOs, risers and pipelines; wellheads and trees; shorebase; how these decisions affect rig selection and project costs
  • Drilling rig designs (capabilities, benefits, selection criteria, several activity centers to shorten the critical path, and rig strategy—how rig needs evolve over the course of an asset's life)
  • Sequences for drilling wells (surface and subsea wellheads, strategies for casing and cementing programs, drilling fluid selection, wellbore stability—a restricted MW window—, ECD management, lost circulation, NPT avoidance—well control, hole cleaning)
  • ransition from Completion to Intervention (maintenance of barriers, work sequencing in batch or serial mode, available interventions)
