Oil and Gas Production Using Applied Water Technology

About the Course

The principal water handling systems generally found in upstream (E&P) production activities, both onshore and offshore, are briefly covered in this course. We'll discuss the chemistry behind the four basic water-related issues of mineral scales, corrosion, bacteria, and greasy water from both a theoretical and practical standpoint. Water injection and disposal systems, typical water quality requirements, and produced water treatment equipment will all be examined. An activity will be provided to help you recognize common system issues and use what you learn to suggest fixes. The focus will be on comprehending and fixing operational issues with process equipment.

Target Audience

Managers, engineers, chemists, and operators must comprehend the issues with water in oil and gas production and how to fix them.

Course Objectives

  • Basics of the chemistry of oilfield water
  • How to keep an eye on and manage bacterial growth, scale buildup, and corrosion in generated water and water injection/disposal systems
  • How to put system surveillance programs into practice to find potential issues before system damage happens
  • Options for treating produced (oily) water and related treatment machinery
  • How to apply what you've learned to recognize common system issues so you can come up with solutions

 Course Outlines

  •  Basics of water chemistry sampling and evaluation of water Water produced scales. control of corrosion
  • microbiology of water treatment
  •  Principles for produced water discharge, disposal, and treatment
  • Equipment for purifying produced water: principle of operation, benefits, and significance of oil droplet size
  • Theory of operation, biological control, corrosion, and scale in water injection and disposal systems research case
