Facilities for CO2 Surface

 About the Course

This course focuses on how carbon dioxide affects the choice and use of equipment (separators, compressors, and dehydrators), as well as equipment used in the sweetening process. This program, which was first presented in 1985, offers assistance to those who operate with carbon dioxide or natural gas with a high carbon dioxide content. This course is especially relevant to individuals who run enhanced oil recovery (EOR) facilities that use CO2 as a miscible agent or who design them. Data on the physical and thermodynamic properties of mixes of carbon dioxide and natural gas are discussed. Calculations are made to demonstrate concepts and procedures. If a plant tour is offered (only for Midland public course sessions or in-house sessions), an additional day will be added to the course.

Target Audience

engineers and senior operating staff who work with CO2, N2, and CO2 EOR systems.

Course Objectives

  •  What to anticipate over a CO2 EOR system's lifetime
  • Effect of CO2 on the configuration and performance of oil producing machinery
  • Pure CO2's physical and thermodynamic characteristics, as well as how it affects combinations of hydrocarbons gas dehydration with a high CO2 content
  • Best methods for handling metering, flaring, and dense phase pipes, etc.
  • How to pressurize and pump CO2
  • utilizing purification techniques such Ryan-Holmes, amines, hot carbonate, and membranes.

Course Outlines

  •  Overview of the facilities for CO2 injection and processing CO2 is heavily emphasized for improved oil recovery
  • Thermodynamic and physical characteristics of CO2 and high CO2 mixtures CO2 systems' material selection and design considerations
  • Process vessel requirements compressors and pumps.
  • Considerations for fluid flow and unique pipeline design, such as preventing ductile fractures CO2 and CO2-rich gas dehydration
  •  Overview of CO2 treatment/recovery methods in general
