Evaluation of the Cased Hole Formation - CH

About the Course

The art and science of reliably identifying residual hydrocarbons using cutting-edge multi-detector pulsed neutron (PN) technologies as well as contemporary dual-detector detectors are taught in this course. The latter, especially in low porosity, can compute many petrophysical parameters simultaneously and better delineate gas, but it increases the complexity of the data and its interpretation. The course covers measurement-to-interpretation methods employed by different parties, providing an understanding of their usefulness under conditions of growing wellbore and formation complexity. The user will have a better grasp of why instruments from many service providers, which frequently record the same raw data under almost identical circumstances, may have quite varied forecasts. The course will assist technology users in selecting the best tools for the work, planning logging jobs more effectively, and, if necessary, doing in-house interpretation. On the fourth day, participants are encouraged to bring project work to discuss with the teacher.

Target Audience

Geologists, experts in formation evaluations, completion, reservoir, and production engineers, as well as managers who might be choosing technologies and tools.

 Course Objectives

Participants will pick up skills in:

  •  Analyze the suitability of PNC capture vs. C/O logging techniques for saturation calculation, particularly in difficult well bores and complex formations.
  • Analyze Pulsed Neutron Capture (PNC) Logs to determine the water and steam saturations. accurate estimations for the impact of shaliness in petrophysics
  • Distinguish liquids from gases and steam
  • directly calculate oil saturation using the Carbon/Oxygen method Identify water input points and evaluate zonal communication
  • Determine when specialized techniques, such as pseudo-density, Log-Inject-Log to estimate remaining oil vs. residual oil saturation, etc., may not be effective.
  • Select the appropriate tools.
  • Work on QC for interpretation and job planning

Course Outlines

  • Brief overview of the fundamentals and applications of nuclear logging in general and cased-hole logging in particular Features of different contemporary dual-detector and upcoming multi-detector cased-hole logging equipment utilized in the industry
  • In clean and shaly formations, cased-hole applications of pulsed neutron capture (PNC) methods, carbon/oxygen logging in low- or variable-salinity conditions in water and steam floods, and direct neutron (PNN) methods to locate oil/water, gas/liquid, or steam/liquid contacts are all possible.
  • Calculate residual saturation using log-inject-log techniques for water, oil, gas, and steam saturation (in steam floods).
  • Pseudo-density and porosity estimation (special instances) Make knowledgeable tool and measurement decisions. Make operational judgments.
  • Utilizing the aforementioned in open-hole completions
  • Variations in vendor-specific saturation interpretation techniques activation of oxygen to identify the water entry
  • orkflow planning and guidelines for effective monitoring
