Crude Oil via Fractional Distillation, OT-44

 About the Course

This introductory course demonstrates the fractional distillation process, which transforms crude oil into high-quality gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, lubricants, and subsequently chemical and refinery unit feedstocks. Experienced operators who wish to comprehend the "why" behind separation, fractional distillation, and splitting procedures as well as the "how" should take the course. Operators are introduced to fundamental equipment, process, and critical control troubleshooting methods in this training.

 Target Audience

Supervisors, managers, and other non-engineering personnel who must have a core focus on refinery processing facilities, including technicians for operations and maintenance of process units.

 Course Objectives

  •  Applying fractional distillation to crude unit operations in refineries
  • Hydrocarbon characteristics, advanced physical principles, and hydrocarbon phase behavior Application of fluid dynamics principles to pumps
  • Applied thermodynamics Energy and Mass Balances Understanding distillation and splitting towers using physical principles
  • Techniques for troubleshooting the distillation process, apparatus, and controls

 Course Outlines

  •  Process overview for refineries stability of crude
  • Partially distilling
  • The fluids made from hydrocarbons and their characteristics physiological concepts
  • Condensate and oil processing
  • Thermodynamics in practice: mass and energy balances mass transfer procedures
  • verview of hydrotreating and hydrocracking System and equipment diagnosis Process unit inspections (as allowed)
